4 Ways To Get A Raise
Working in a business where your wages aren’t perhaps as a good as you would like them to be can be extremely demoralising. Knowing that other employees are doing the same job as you and getting more money for it isn’t fun, here are a few ways that you can work towards getting a raise.
Simply Ask For It!
This sounds like an obvious one, with this you have to ensure that you pick the right time to ask! For example, if you ask during the middle of an ordinary working week then you do not stand a chance. Sit and present to the company with success or win more clients and you are set to book an appointment with the boss to ask the big question! Try this in your serviced office!
You will find that entertaining a client for a couple of days and then getting great feedback will result in your boss already thinking about it, just ask and you may be surprised!
Do A Few Favours
Some bosses like their employees to show just how loyal they are to the company before they will even consider a promotion or raise in the salary. Doing a few favours for the boss might seem like a task more there for a secretary but don’t underestimate the power of getting on the good side of your manager.
The one thing to be aware of here is to ensure that your boss doesn’t start false promising you a raise in exchange for you doing mundane tasks like fetching the dry cleaning and constant coffee refills. Unless it’s your job, don’t do it, there is a difference between a favour or two and being a slave to your business owners demands.
Threaten To Quit
This is arguably the riskiest way that you can get a raise and you have to be 100% sure that your boss actually sees your employment in the company as an important one. If you have close relationships with some of the biggest clients within your company and have an offer to work elsewhere for more money why not think about talking to the boss about it?
Don’t run in and angrily threaten to quit if you don’t get a raise immediately; sit down and go through your new job offer and say that you would love to stay at your current company but the money just isn’t there for you at the moment.
Remember that you are skating on thin ice with this option, the last thing you want to happen is for your employer to think you are just in the company for the money, the loyalty has to be there in order for you to gain respect. This works in any office environment, including office space soho!
How About A Lifestyle Fix?
Sometimes giving someone a monetary raise is impossible for a company to do, this may be down to a number of reasons but it is something you are going to have to be aware of. If you are told that you are not able to receive a raise in this form then how about something that will improve your lifestyle at work? This could be anything from a new computer to an extra day off in the year or a little bit of time put aside for research every month!
